A forest the size of a nation is vanishing — and almost no one is watching.
Kelp forests are the rainforests of the sea. They shelter thousands of species, lock away carbon, and shield our coastlines from storms. But warming water is pushing sea urchins south in plague numbers — and they eat kelp faster than it can grow. What's left behind is an urchin barren: bare rock, where a living forest once stood.
